A Fresh Start  For The New Year

new years resolutionFor many of us, February marks the time when we kick off our New Years Resolutions. The kids are back to school and Australia Day has been and gone, so the routine of daily life settles in; and there are no more excuses left! We’ve spent December enjoying the festive season without guilt, knowing we would ‘resolve’ to change the bad habits that have crept their way in. Then January was bursting with all the activities that herald the start of a year – from buying school books to finding our way to the bottom of the holiday washing mountain. Now, it is finally time for you!

When you’ve had a spare minute here and there, you may jotted down a few ‘To Do’s’ for the year and started formulating ‘the plan’ to make it all happen. If you haven’t found the time, find it today because a recent study http://www.statisticbrain.com/new-years-resolution-statistics/ found that people who make resolutions are a whopping 10 times more likely to achieve their goals than those who don’t – so get your pen out immediately!

And when you do start your list boldly titled “Resolutions for 2014”, it’s no surprise to any of us that people’s most popular resolution is to Lose Weight – it’s been at the top of our list regularly for the past few years! Perhaps you were too busy to take action before now, but if your Number #1 Resolution is to Get Fit and Healthy we’re here to help you get inspired and take action. We’ve compiled our 5 favorite tips to literally get you up and running!

1. Set your goal

Now you have written down your goal to lose weight – you’re already on the journey. Break down your goal into smaller milestones and assign each a reward, this will give you motivation on days when you feel like giving up. Need some inspiration for a ‘me gift’?

There’s a swag of tools to help you set realistic goals, we looked at Michelle Bridges BMI Calculator for deciding your weight target and we also love an app for simple goal setting.

2. Plan to make exercise a part of your every day

Create extra steps in your daily life, walk to the next bus stop or take the stairs at work.

If your mornings are chaos, pack you gym bag the night before for a quick early morning exit or throw it in the car for an afternoon workout. Our favorite essentials include Calm Skin Chamomile Cleanser to cleanse on the go, removing your makeup before working out makes sure your pores stay clear. Even better, it has hydrating calendula and sunflower oils to ease the post workout face redness! Even better, it has hydrating calendula and sunflower oils to ease the post workout face redness! Follow up with a Tinted Moisturiser in Vanilla, Caramel or Cocoa Latte to get you from the gym to the office in no time.

Only got a few minutes spare? Some days things just don’t go to plan. Prepare for it by arming yourself with some quick exercise routines. When you are too busy to make it to the gym, the 7 minute workout by UOVO (free) is perfect for on the run exercise – you just need a chair, a wall and 7 minutes!

3. Think about your food choices in advance

think about food choicesFuel up with healthy food choices – including lots of fresh fruits, veggies, lean proteins and healthy fats. Consider a whole foods approach and think, ‘if you can’t eat the sum of its parts you shouldn’t eat it’. Ask yourself, “Would I sit down to eat a cup of flour that the muffins were made out of?” and so on.

Importantly, keep your trusty water bottle handy for hydration on the go –  remember 6 to 8 glasses a day is optimal for your health.

4. Commit to an event

On your marks! Get involved in a local run for charity run or aim high and grab your mates for a marathon. Last year, more women than men made it across the line at Sydney’s City to Surf so get out there! For a list of events, check out Running Calendar

5. Make it a team effort

Enlist the support of your family or friends. The kids will be more than happy to take on the role of a trainer or simply get outdoors with you on the weekend. Or, meet you with your girlfriends for a workout instead of a coffee or head to the park instead of a movie.

For outdoor exercise remember to think Slip, Slop, Slap… check the UV levels for workout times with the free SunSmart App and be sure to grab our Tomato Sun Cream SPF15 for easy to use and carry anywhere sun protection.
